Super Bowl aftermath: more than a few drivers detained by police

| Feb 9, 2016 | Drunk Driving Charges |

On behalf of Pearson & Paris, P.C. posted in Drunk Driving Charges on Tuesday, February 9, 2016.

Here’s a topic: the Super Bowl and drinking.

We’re not inferring or implying anything in that above reference to the obvious link between the nation’s outsized annual party and the many millions of viewers/revelers who partake of a bit of alcohol to mark the festivities.

We’re simply noting the obvious: More than a bit of alcohol flows on the Sunday each February in which the NFL plays its last game.

Of course, that final game two days ago involved Colorado in a big way, with the Broncos prevailing over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.

How exciting was that, and how many toasts to Denver’s resilience and greatness this past season were made in the wake of the contest? Even Payton Manning got caught up in the moment, informing viewers of his intent to down a few Budweiser at post-game parties.

Of course, and as noted in a recent Denver news article, state law enforcement agencies had a laser-like focus on Colorado roads leading up to and following the game. Reportedly, 327 people were arrested on drunk driving charges following the Super Bowl in 2014 (also featuring the Broncos).

It’s a bit early to note with any clarity the numbers that will be ultimately pegged to DUI-related stops and arrests following last Sunday’s game, but there is certainly no doubt that many state motorists will be facing criminal charges alleging intoxication and impaired driving.

“[U]nderstand that we are out and we’re going to be out in force,” said one Colorado State Patrol trooper prior to the game.

Penalties for a DUI conviction in Colorado can be notably severe. Persons with questions or concerns regarding a drunk driving arrest or charge can obtain prompt guidance and aggressive legal representation from an experienced criminal defense attorney.
