Report issued on DUI laws in Colorado

On Behalf of | Jun 24, 2015 | Drunk Driving Charges |

A recent report suggested that drunk driving incidents in Colorado have significantly decreased since 1980. In fact, between 1982 and 2013, statistics demonstrate a 52 percent decrease in drunk driving fatalities in the state. In one assessment, Colorado is ranked at number 17 for having the strictest DUI laws in the nation.

Law enforcement agencies throughout the United States have attempted to improve the safety of the nation’s roadways. Still, each year, there are incidents where motor vehicle accidents occur where alcohol consumption is a causal factor. A person facing DUI charges can incur severe penalties. Unfortunately, drunk driving remains a leading cause of death on America’s highways.

Many individuals do not expect to find themselves facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. Law enforcement agencies make extra efforts during holidays to prevent drunk driving accidents. Still, when drivers are pulled over and face charges involving alcohol, they will want to prepare as best they can for court.

Any motorist accused of DUI in Colorado or any other state retains the right to consult with a legal professional who has experience in criminal defense. A criminal lawyer would be able to offer an individualized assessment of a case and provide information and suggestions for how best to proceed when preparing to navigate the legal system. Someone accused of DUI might have questions or concerns regarding possible conviction and/or subsequent penalties. A legal team would most likely be able to clarify the issues and provide answers to those questions, as well as provide ongoing representation throughout every stage of the criminal process.
