Grandparent Visitation In Colorado

In our state, grandparents may petition the court for grandparent visitation time if there has been a prior case allocating parental responsibility, or if there is an ongoing custody or visitation dispute.

However, courts do not readily grant grandparents’ visitation rights when the custodial parent has denied access to a child. They do rule favorably in such cases though when it can be shown that granting visitation is in the “best interest” of the child. This is especially the case where the grandparent raised the child in the early stages of life.
